The ’ILSAC’ sign on the engine oil can hides a major secret

- Aug 01, 2019-

In addition to the "API" certification mark on the tank packaging of some oil products, there is also a mark of ILSAC:

ILSAC's English name is "International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee", the Chinese name is "International Lubricant Standardization and Certification Committee", was established in the early 1990s, is the American Automobile Manufacturers Association (AAMA) and Japanese automakers. The association (JAMA) was jointly established, which is an organization that certifies the specifications of lubricant products, and its certification is commissioned by the American Petroleum Institute (API). In addition to the All-Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, ILSAC members include many automotive engine manufacturers in the world, such as Daimler Chrysler, Ford, and General GM. ILSAC has now developed specifications for GF-1, GF-2, GF-3, GF-4 and GF-5 for gasoline engine oil.

Then in the years when API certification is very popular,

Why is the certification body of ILSAC still established?

First of all, ILSAC's GF series certification must pass the EC energy-saving certification in addition to all the requirements of the corresponding API quality level, namely:

GF-1 is equivalent to SH+ energy saving requirements;

GF-2 is equivalent to SJ+ energy saving requirements;

GF-3 is equivalent to SL+ energy saving requirements;

GF-4 is equivalent to SM+ energy saving requirements;

GF-5 is equivalent to SN+ energy saving requirements;

That is to say, the ILSAC-certified lubricant products are more stringent in terms of energy conservation and environmental protection than the API certification of the corresponding specification grade. For engine manufacturers and automakers, the fuel consumption can be appropriately reduced by adjusting the lubricant formulation. Its pressure on fuel consumption certification; for lubricant manufacturers, ILSAC-certified products are a selling point that can attract consumers; and for consumers, ILSAC-certified products are more fuel-efficient, why not What? In addition, due to the increasing environmental problems caused by the increase in the number of cars, energy-saving and low-emission products are receiving more and more attention and welcome. Under this circumstance, the establishment of ILSAC can also be said to comply with the development needs of the market.
